Jesuit’s tennis team opened district play with a 7-0 shutout of St. Augustine on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at the UNO Tennis Center.

The feature match of the day was yet another duel between senior Graham Buck and his frequent nemesis, the Purple Knights’ Allen Miller. The two last met in the 2016 state tournament, with Buck picking up a tough win that was critical to Jesuit’s team title. The pair had also played the week before in the regional singles semifinals, with Buck surviving a hard fought three-set match.

This time, however, there was no drama. Buck defeated Miller 8-0 for the win at Line 1 singles. Sophomore Dex Webster won at Line 2, also by a score of 8-0. A pair of freshmen closed out the singles scoring, with James Henican and Luke Russo picking up wins at Lines 3 and 4, respectively.

In doubles, Buck teamed with Webster for the win on Line One. Henican paired up with sophomore David Nimmo to take Line 2, and Russo partnered with freshman Tom Levy to chalk up the final victory on Line Three.

The Jays return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 21 against Ben Franklin. Match time is 4:00 at the UNO Tennis Center.
