Quiz Bowlers Win LSU Invitational Tournament
Jesuit Quiz Bowl won the Louisiana State University Mike VI Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 2, despite being one player short.
In a grueling academic contest of 12 games in six hours, and despite only fielding a team of three members instead of the usual four, Jesuit’s Team A emerged victorious with a 11-1 record. Seniors Anthony Stoner (captain), D.J. Ogbomah, and Stephen Owers won the title once they easily defeated the only team that had earlier beat them in the tournament. Stoner was MVP for Jesuit and the second highest scorer there.
Jesuit’s Team B, a composite of juniors Preston Warwick (captain) and Keegan Rooney with sophomores William Brown and Manuel Molina, was seeded fifth and, like Team A, came back to defeat a team that had earlier beaten them. However, Team B was defeated in the quarterfinals by Team A.
The all-freshmen Team C also competed in the varsity tournament. Matthew Dowling, Bradley Fugetta, Christopher Vuong, and captain Dexter Webster defeated four varsity teams including one that had beaten them earlier in the day.
Jesuit will compete in the NAQT 2016 High School National Championship Tournament on May 28–29 in New Orleans.
The team is coached and moderated by Mr. Ron Rossi.
