The Blue Jay Rugby team opens the playoffs Monday, April 25 at 5:45 p.m. against St. Paul’s at the Marconi Field. The team invites the entire Jesuit community to come out and enjoy the playoff match.

The Blue Jays met their cross-town rivals, Brother Martin, for a friendly pre-playoffs match Saturday, April 16. The Jays came out on top, 14-0. Junior Bryce Duffy scored when he collected a loose ball and crashed through several defenders on his way to crossing the goal line. Senior Captain William Waguespack scored on a long, powerful run that included a punishing stiff-arm. Senior Scott Derbes was perfect on two conversion kicks.

In the second half, each teams B-side squared off and the Jays again walked away victorious, 12-7. Sophomore Brady Moran kept the Jays offense humming with an excellent play at the scrumhalf position. A pair of late-season additions to the squad also made worthy contributions. Sophomore Zac Beckmann displayed powerful running. One such run set-up a score by senior Cole Retif, while sophomore Charles Lobrano set the tone on defense with some punishing tackles.
