Jesuit took home The National WWII Museum’s Quiz Bowl championship on Thursday, March 17, defeating three-time state champion Central High of Baton Rouge. The competition was the tightest in WWII Quiz Bowl history, ending in a three-question tiebreaker.

This was Jesuit’s first time in the finals after coming in third place for several years. Seniors Andrew Cerise, Connor Martinez, and Daniel Puente comprised this year’s team for Jesuit, with social studies and history instructor Dr. Cyril M. Lagvanec II as their advisor.

“This was our first win in this contest, and trust me when I say the boys truly earned it. They worked so hard and took the task very seriously. I am quite proud of them,” remarked Lagvanec.

Eighteen schools from across Louisiana competed in preliminary rounds of the event beginning in February. The two finalist teams competed on live TV in front of a small studio audience.

Kenneth Hoffman, the WWII Museum’s education director, served as quiz master for the event.
