The 2015 co-curricular publication was edited by then-seniors Francis Weller and Josh Hudak, junior Chase Mascaro, and sophomore Mitchell Berry, and moderated by Mr. Gary Wyss and Mr. Travis Smith.
The goal of Calliope is to foster creative talents at Jesuit. The staff publishes the best creative pieces from student submissions across grade levels and abilities. Staff members read, critique, and edit the work of others; senior staff members also learn aspects of layout and design. The magazine is published in the spring and sponsors several awards for creative writing and artwork.
NCTE’s Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines (PRESLM) recognizes students, teachers, and schools for producing excellent literary magazines. The program’s mission is to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines and seek excellence in writing and school-wide participation in production. Participation in the program serves as an inducement for improving the quality of school literary magazines. Judges evaluate and rank middle school, junior high, and high school literary magazines. Critiques of individual magazines are not provided.
