Principal Peter Kernion ’90 addressed the morning assembly about the significance and appreciation of this day in Jesuit history. “Ten years ago today we returned to this campus to resume classes after Hurricane Katrina.” Jesuit was the first flooded school in Orleans parish to resume classes on its campus. Kernion said much of the credit for Jesuit’s recovery can be attributed to the leadership of Fr. Anthony McGinn, S.J. ’66 who was the school’s president at the time.

“I am not alone in feeling that Fr. McGinn’s contributions to Jesuit following Katrina should be recognized – even though this recognition is the last thing that he wants,” Kernion said. “Fr. McGinn certainly was our captain who steered us through unprecedented turbulent waters and did so with a great deal of competence, conscience, and compassion.”

After the assembly, Mr. Rob Roso, an English teacher who has been at Jesuit since 2002, shook Mr. Kernion’s hand. “Having lived through that experience, I couldn’t agree more with you. Thanks.”
