Senior Chase Rushing scored two goals to lead the Jesuit soccer team to a 4-1 road victory over the Ben Franklin Falcons on Saturday.

Rushing opened up the scoring in a rainy first half, dribbling through several defenders before launching a rocket off his right foot.

Sophomore Braden Brignac followed up with an unassisted effort of his own with ten minutes left in the first half, and the Jays seemed firmly in control at that point.

But five minutes later, Franklin answered on a free kick that found its way around a wall of Jesuit defenders and through the hands of sophomore goalie Shane Lansen.

In the second half, with the rain dissipating, Jesuit padded its lead on a penalty kick by senior Dillon Fuchs. The kick was awarded after a Falcon player was called for a hand ball in the box.

Rushing closed out the scoring with another unassisted effort late in the second half.

Jesuit Coach Hubie Collins was happy to get a win, but concerned about his team’s intensity level.

“We came out a little flat today,” said Collins, who attributed the slow start to a tough match with Newman in the season opener on Thursday night. “But once we found our rhythm, we were able to take advantage of our opportunities.”

With the win, the Jays improve to 2-0 on the season. Franklin falls to 1-1-1.

Next up for Jesuit is a Monday night showdown with the Holy Cross Tigers. Match time is 5:00 p.m at John Ryan Stadium.
