Jesuit High School is committed to assisting its students in the college admissions process. To that end, students have access to two full-time college counselors and a third part-time college counselor. College counselors meet individually with juniors and seniors to discuss the college admissions process, including the importance of curriculum choice as well as academic performance, the need for co-curricular involvement, standardized testing preparation, and avenues for pursuing scholarships and financial aid.

In addition, counselors provide a variety of programming for students and parents throughout their time at Jesuit. One such program is the Senior College Info Night that was held on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Offering detailed information about the college application process, all three college counselors — Ms. Elizabeth Hoodless, Ms. Allie Timberlake, and Mr. Keith Gramling — stressed the importance of being organized, meeting deadlines, and remaining calm throughout the process. They suggest applying to six to eight schools, including at least one where they are certain to be admitted and one that may be considered a stretch or reach.

Counselors also suggested using the net price calculators that all colleges and universities are required to have on their websites to give families an idea of out-of-pocket college costs. More information about paying for college will be covered on Dec. 8 during the College Financial Aid Night.

College Info Night for Juniors

Juniors and their parents are invited to attend College Info Night for Juniors on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. On this night, the college counselors will make a general presentation about college admissions covering such topics as standardized tests, types of GPA reporting, TOPS, scholarships, and financial aid.  The entire presentation should require about one hour.

Seniors, juniors, and sophomores are invited to Jesuit’s annual College Fair on Sunday, Oct. 18 to visit with representatives from more than 70 institutions, both domestic and international. In addition, a representative from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) will be on hand to provide information about financing. The College Fair will be held from 2-4 p.m

Any questions regarding College Info Night or the College Fair should be directed to Elizabeth HoodlessAllie Timberlake, or Keith Gramling in the college planning office.
