Big Brothers and Little Brothers were treated to a jambalaya lunch cooked by long-time parent volunteer Bill Poynot and served by a team of alumni from the classes of 1979 and 2011.

Each year, members of the Jesuit Alumni Association dish out a delicious jambalaya lunch to help welcome Little Brothers (new students) to Jesuit and thank Big Brothers (traditionally juniors and seniors) for their service to the school’s newest Jays. Members of the Class of 1979 formed a leadership team and returned to the Student Commons as a way giving back to their alma mater.

Big Brothers help get their Little Brothers acclimated to life at Jesuit — beginning on Welcome Day in the spring, and again in the fall with Book Day, Investiture, and other start of school activities. Many Big and Little Brothers remain in touch over the years, long after each graduates.

This luncheon precedes a safari-themed Welcome Week full of lunchtime activities for Blue Jays of all classes, from pre-freshmen to seniors, hosted by the Student Council. Each day will bring a new adventure in the courtyard:

Monday, August 31 – Game Preserve Obstacle Course

Tuesday, September 1 – Hungry Hungry Hippos (Human Edition)

Wednesday, September 2 – Zoo Maze

Thursday, September 3 – Blue and White Day, Pep Rally

On Friday, the school will celebrate Mass of the Holy Spirit in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs. Blue Jays are reminded to wear a coat and tie and to bring their Student Prayer Book with them to Mass. Dismissal is after Mass, at approximately 9:15 a.m. Yearbook and photo ID make-ups and retakes will take place after Mass.
