Why We Give: Liz & Elliotte Harold ’56

A few years ago, my wife Liz and I were doing some estate planning that involved life insurance. We always had in the back of our minds that we wanted to do something more for Jesuit beyond our annual LEF donation. We wondered if it might make sense to purchase a life insurance policy for Jesuit such as the one we bought for our children. We were in our 70s.

Our financial adviser suggested purchasing a policy for Liz – the younger, healthier, and much better looking of the two of us – with Jesuit as the beneficiary and owner. For a reasonably small amount of money, we purchased a paid-up policy that, upon Liz’s death, will fund a fully endowed scholarship.

We feel that this is a small way to pay back Jesuit for all it has done for me and our family, including my three sons: Rusty ’84, Ed ’85, and Tommy ’93.

Elliotte, who remains close to his classmates from 1956, practiced law for Exxon and two firms in Baton Rouge before retiring in 2014. Liz retired from teaching mathematics at UNO in 2001. The Harolds live in Old Metairie and enjoy travelling, volunteering, and collecting antique cast iron penny banks.
