Members of the Philelectic Society present their annual One-Act Play Festival in the Jesuit Auditorium Thursday – Saturday, Jan. 22-24, at 7:30 p.m, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Each night will feature a plethora of shows, including:

  • Huck Finn by Eric Coble (adapted from the novel “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain) – Directed by Mr. D.J. Galiano ’07. This show features a full cast of the newest Phils.

The festival also features three scenes directed by Philelectic Society seniors:

  • Sorry, Wrong Number by Lucille Fletcher – Directed by Kyla Zimmerman (Ursuline Academy). This show is an adaptation of a 1943 radio play and will keep the audience on the edge of their seat.
  • The Bank Vault by Eitan Loewenstein – Co-Directed by Ashley Busenlener (Benjamin Franklin High School) and Alex Daigle (Jesuit). This satirical comedy puts the audience right in the middle of a bank heist!
  • Reunions by Billy Aronson – Directed by Connor Hill (Jesuit). This show is a fictional comedy that answers the question: What would a high school reunion be like if every young child grew up to be whatever he or she wanted to be?

The J-Troupe, Jesuit’s improv comedy team, will close out each night with a performance showcasing their extemporaneous creativity. The J-Troupe is moderated by Mr. “Magic” Mike Dardant.

The Phils are continuing the tradition of hosting a charity drive in conjunction with the shows. Admission is $5 per person or five canned goods per person. All proceeds will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans. There are no advanced ticket sales for these productions. Tickets are only available at the door before each performance.

As in years past, these performances will take place “on-stage.” Patrons should enter the auditorium using the side lobby in the schoolyard. Once inside, guests should enter the auditorium via the backstage door. Seating will be in a 3/4 thrust black-box arrangement and on a first-come, first-served basis. Seating is limited so theater-goers should plan to arrive early.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no handicap access to the on-stage seating area. All guests should plan to climb a small five-step staircase to get to their seats.
