On the waterfront — an appropriate setting to kickoff Jesuit’s newest alumni chapter. A flock of Blue Jays representing seven different decades living in the Pensacola-Mobile-Destin area turned out for a launch party at the Fish House Restaurant in Pensacola on Friday, September 26.

The group enjoyed a delicious spread of seafood items and heard from Jesuit president Fr. Anthony McGinn, S.J. ’66 and Mat Grau ’68, Jesuit’s alumni director. Fr. McGinn told the attendees that students at Jesuit continue to thrive academically, athletically, socially, and spiritually. Grau urged the attendees to remain connected to each other and to Jesuit. Both school representatives, along with Tom Bagwill, Jesuit’s director of institutional advancement, and Jesuit principal Peter Kernion ’90, offered their thanks.

After the game, a handful of Blue Jays and their families headed over to Pensacola High School to watch the Blue Jay football team face the Pensacola Tigers. Jesuit won the game, 49-17.

Four Jays will lead the Emerald Coast alumni chapter: Brad Bordes ’94, Ernie Danjean ’82, Adam Ganucheau ’04, and Mike Waldo ’70, who helped coordinate the event along with Dick LaCour ’67, another Pensacola resident. The leadership team met with Grau and Bagwill prior to the party to begin looking at future events.

Jesuit has formal alumni chapters in Acadiana (Lafayette-Lake Charles), Baton Rouge, Central Flordia (Tampa-St. Petersburg), and Houston.

And now, Pensacola-Mobile-Destin.
