Jesuit unleashed the lethal duo of senior quarterback Trey LaForge and junior wide receiver Kalija Lipscomb on Central High of Baton Rouge with the pair combining on pass plays that yielded four touchdowns during Friday evening’s home-opener for the Blue Jays at Tad Gormley Stadium.

A fifth touchdown was scored late in the game by sophomore running back Connor Prouet, who with several other sophomores and juniors came off the bench mid-way through the 4th quarter when the Jays pretty much had the Wildcats rolled over and tamed. Prouet’s 1-yard run shut the cage on the visiting Wildcats.

LaForge, looking poised and confident leading the offense, completed mostly short passes to Lipscomb, who has emerged as the Jays’ wide receiver most likely to create chaos among cornerbacks.

Lipscomb caught four special passes from LaForge and did the rest on his own (with key blocks, of course), scoring four touchdowns that went down as 17, 16, 12, and 14 yards.

LaForge threw 22 passes, completing 16 for 155 yards. Lipscomb caught 8 of those passes for 97 yards.

Jesuit’s defense was tenacious, holding the Wildcats to 127 yards rushing and 73 yards passing, with most of that yardage yielded late in the game.

The Jays kicked off to the Wildcats to start the game and on the second play, Jesuit defensive back Mark Beebe intercepted a pass. Beebe, a junior, was making his first start of the season after being sidelined with an injury for the past month. The interception provided a shot of adrenalin to the Jays.

About 90 seconds later, Lipscomb crossed the goal line for the Jays’ first score.

Junior Crew Jacobs was perfect on 5 extra points while his one field goal attempt at 40 yards fell short.

The Jays (2-1) travel to Florida on Friday, September 26 to play Pensacola High, a rivalry that was renewed last season as the Tigers lost to Jesuit at Tad Gormley Stadium. This season, it’s the Jays’ turn to visit the Tigers at their home stadium in Pensacola.

Pre-game ticket prices are set at $5 each for adults, students, and children. All tickets purchased at the gate are $6 each. Tickets will be on sale at the switchboard on Wednesday and Thursday of this week from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets will not be sold on Friday.
