Just a sophomore, Grant Glorioso is already considered one of Louisiana's top high school golfers.

Junior Grant Glorioso is one of Louisiana’s top high school golfers.

This year’s golf team will look a lot different than the 2013-2104 squad. Gone are six seniors, including two who are playing at the collegiate level. However, the head coach says his 2014-2015 team has a chance to surpass last year’s accomplishments.

“I’m optimistic about the upcoming year,” said Owen Seiler ’75, who pointed to a strong nucleus of returning players and some new additions whom he believes have what it takes to keep his Blue Jay golfers competitive at the state level.

The fall season opens on Tuesday, Sept. 16 when the Jays face Archbishop Rummel at TPC Louisiana in Avondale. The Jays will play most of their matches at Lakewood Golf Club.

Leading the veterans is junior Grant Glorioso, who finished atop the leader board at the Beau Chene High School Golf Classic in March 2014. Glorioso and senior Francis Plough will serve as this year’s captains.

Other returnees include juniors Carlo Carino and Jonathan Cedro, and sophomore Nolan Lambert, who had an outstanding freshman year and was chosen as the alternate on Jesuit’s team at the LHSAA state tournament in Shreveport.

Newcomers include the following: Colin Hery (senior), Brett Hocke (junior), Cameron Kaupp (junior), Sean Donovan (sophomore), J.T. Holmes (freshman), Grayson Glorioso (freshman), Andrew Kuebel (freshman), Jake Kuebel (freshman), and Jack Vollenweider (freshman)

Two Jesuit graduates who started on last year’s team are swinging their clubs competitively: C.J. Blagrove ’14 is playing for Spring Hill in Mobile, and Alex Anderson ’14 is on the golf team at Iona College in New York.

Seiler and his assistant coach Sean Hillis once again plan to take this year’s team to a national tournament in Myrtle Beach during the Easter holidays.

Coach Seiler says the trip serves two purposes. “It’s a wonderful warm-up for the post-season, and it’s also an incredible bonding opportunity for our players.”
